Abu Dhabi – home to the Capital City, the Oasis City and more.

Abu Dhabi is fast claiming its rightful position as a leading tourism destination, not only within the Arabian Peninsula, but the world. Abu Dhabi’s topography has it all, pristine beaches;breath-taking sand dunes, natural oasis, turquoise corniche, sprawling gardens and the imposing Hajar Mountains close by. Abu Dhabi also has dozens of islands, mostly small and uninhabited, some of which have been designated as sanctuaries for wildlife.

Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven emirates that constitute the UAE. Abu Dhabi is home to UAE’s capital – Abu Dhabi City. Many of Abu Dhabi’s islands are fast gaining tourism prominence, like the new destinations of Saadiyat and Yas Islands. The Sir BaniYas Island deserves a distinct mention. This island is rich in history and contains a Christian monastery dating from the late pre-Islamic period, and archaeological sites from the Late Stone Age. Under the guidance from the former UAE President HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the island has become instrumental in enriching the country’s flora and fauna.

Abu Dhabi is also home to the UAE’s ‘Oasis City’ – Al Ain, which lies at the feet of the Emirate’s tallest peak – JabelHafeet. Tourists can pay a visit to the oasis city of Al Ain and enjoy a sightseeing tour to archaeological and leisure sites.

Abu Dhabi is endowed with an extensive coastline, clean sandy beaches and varied landscape making way for a wide variety of activities to indulge in. The choice of activities includes, but is not limited to – desert safaris, dune bashing, wadi driving, powerboat racing, sand-skiing, helicopter, boat and dhow tours, golf at manicured golf courses, archaeology, bird watching, indoor skiing and a range of marine sports like sailing, fishing, wind-surfing, water-skiing, scuba diving and snorkelling. In addition, a glimpse of the rich cultural heritage is reflected in the traditional sports such as falconry, camel- racing and horse racing.

Shopping options here are limitless, from traditional handicrafts, handmade by local Bedouins to the high street fashion brands, often at bargain prices.
